Panchkula, December 18

To gain maximum support ahead of the voting day, the BJP has been trying to appease a disgruntled leader, who was denied the mayoral ticket by the party.

Shirdi Sai Samaj's chairman Anil Thapar, after being denied the ticket, had earlier decided to contest as an Independent candidate.

Senior leaders from the party, including Union State Minister Ratan Lal Kataria and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta, paid a visit to Thapar's house today for persuading him to support the party and their efforts yielded results. Thapar finally announced to extend his support to the party.

BJP president Ajay Sharma, while making an announcement on the development, said: "Thapar stands with the party to ensure its victory in all 20 wards."

Thapar said he had been a true soldier of the BJP and would abide by the party's top brass' instructions to strengthen the party in the upcoming elections.

"On Gian Chand Gupta's request, I have decided to support the party in the ongoing elections," he said.
