No question of repealing farm laws: Kataria

Panchkula, December 18

Defending the Haryana Government on its attempts to stop farmers from marching towards Delhi, Union Minister of State Rattan Lal Kataria compared farmers to a raging bull.

On the Supreme Court's observation that farmers had the right to protest, Kataria said: "It's the government's responsibility to maintain the law and order. If a bull goes mad, it is obvious that you will do everything to protect yourself."

"Farmers are our annadata (food provider), like a god to us. There is no question of confronting them," he added.

Kataria said former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was incapable of politics.

Kataria said there was a deadlock between the government and farmers as their protests had been hijacked by anti-social elements.

"The government has already laid down proposals before the farmers' unions to end the impasse. There is no question of repealing the farm laws as they will benefit the farmers and double their income," the minister added. — TNS
