Gurugram, May 28
In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old city youth infected with coronavirus could not be saved despite his family purchasing two oxygen cylinders for a whopping Rs 65,000 because both cylinders turned out to be empty.
FIR not yet registered
- No FIR has been registered amidst the jurisdiction war. The cylinders were bought in Delhi, while the victim died in Gurugram hospital.
Shattered by this tragedy a month ago, the family filed a complaint with the Gurugram police, but is still running from pillar to post to get an FIR registered. Since the cylinders were bought in Delhi, the Gurugram police asked the family to approach the Delhi Police, while the latter referred them back to Gurugram saying the patient died there. So amidst the jurisdiction war, an FIR is yet to be registered. According to the complaint filed with the Gurugram police by Bhuwan Mahajan, his brother-in-law Sumitan Kaushal died in the wee hours of May 1. He was admitted in Mayom Hospital in Gurgaon and was in a critical condition. The hospital did not have enough oxygen and asked the family to arrange it.
In the complaint, Mahajan writes: "We got a call from a person (8287797455) in Sawada village, Delhi, who said that he could give us filled oxygen cylinders on April 30. He charged Rs 65,000 for two cylinders. Since our patient was critical and we had no other source, we agreed. I took the delivery of both cylinders and reached the hospital.
"In the wee hours of May 1, the hospital asked us to bring the cylinders. However, when we brought the cylinders to the intensive care unit (ICU), both of them were empty. Due to this fraud and loss of time, Sumitan died struggling for breath."
Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, KK Rao, meanwhile, has assured that he will look into the issue.
