Vax laxity due to anger over farm laws: CM

New Delhi, April 10

Days after Health Minister Harsh Vardhan flagged Punjab for low vaccine coverage, CM Capt Amarinder Singh today said the people in Punjab were still not coming out in large numbers for the vaccination due to the massive anger prevailing against the Centre over farm law issue.

"Since Punjab is agriculture dominated, even the common man is affected by the farmers' agitation. This anger is impacting the vaccination drive. We are working to address it," Singh said at a Covid review meet called by Congress president Sonia Gandhi today.

He said Punjab ranked 18th nationally on cumulative cases with an average of 3,000 cases a day for 15 days. "The number of cases is slightly stable now," the CM said, adding: "Even in the graphs put up by the Health Ministry in the PM's review meeting, Punjab curve appears to have flattened over the past fortnight."

Punjab is no longer among the 10 states contributing most to daily cases. The state has 27,200 active cases and a recovery rate of 87.1% against the national 90.80%. The CM said: "Deaths are a concern with 50-60 daily fatalities and case fatality rate a little under 2% against 1.28% nationally". — TNS
