Amid raging Covid pandemic, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised all medical colleges and universities to adhere to the existing norms to conduct the final MBBS examinations.
"Though conducting exams and arranging external examiners is a difficult job amid pandemic, exams are crucial to ensure academic credibility, career opportunities and future progress of students nationally and globally," said a senior member of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the NMC.
The NMC's advisory comes in pursuance of several representations from medical colleges and students seeking guidance for the conduct of final examinations for the MBBS. The NMC said all final MBBS examinations should be conducted by the universities concerned as per their scheduled timeline and the existing protocol should be strictly followed. Further, the regulator has specified the allotment of examiners throughout the examinations timeline.
One examiner from outside state must

According to the advisory sent by UGMEB President Dr Aruna V Vanikar, if the external examiners were not available from outside the state, at least one examiner must be called from outside to conduct the exam online.
"The other external examiners may be invited from the same health university who is to remain present physically. The internal examiners must conduct exams physically on the same premises. If there is shortage of clinical material, it may be replaced by simulating material, including provision of supporting material like X-rays, CT scan etc," the advisory added. — TNS
