Protester rounded up, let off with warning

Chandigarh, April 21

Today, as pro-farmer groups and civil society members took to Matka Chowk and protested against the farm laws, Satnam Singh Tanda of Nojawan Kisan Ekta was rounded up by the UT police. After an hour and a half, Tanda was let off with a warning.

There were many people at the protest and cops targeted me alone. We had halted the protest on the weekend too, keeping the lockdown in mind, but on Wednesday, a few people turned up, including me.

He added: "We were all obeying Covid guidelines and staging a peaceful protest. I even distributed sanitisers and masks to the protesters who had come today."

The police post in-charge, Sub-Inspector Jaiveer Singh, said: "We took Satnam Singh from the protest site and asked him the reason for coming to the chowk. We have shown him the orders issued by the DC and taken an undertaking from him for complying with the orders in future, and let him off after a warning."
