Rohtak, March 9
Owners of photostat shops and cybercafés located in the vicinity of local colleges, where examinations of undergraduate classes are underway, are violating Section 144 of the CrPC with impunity.
After The Tribune in its March 4 edition had highlighted that shopkeepers were selling “cheating slips”, popularly known as “gutkas”, to students, the District Magistrate had ordered that photostat shops and cybercafés located within the 200 m radius of the examination centres would remain closed while the exams were in progress.
In spite of his order, shops located near Jat College, Neki Ram Sharma Government College and other colleges remain open during the exams.
“Cheating slips” are being sold for Rs 40 to Rs 60 per set. Each set comprises of exam notes in the question and answer format printed on small pieces of paper.
“The District Magistrate’s order remains on paper,” said a local resident, who lives near a college.
