Chandigarh, December 23
Gangster Malkit Singh, alias Nawab, has been brought here on production warrant by the Chandigarh police to investigate his role in a real estate businessman's kidnapping who was released on payment of Rs 40 lakh, reported in 2016. Nawab was lodged in the Ferozepur jail. The police said his name had cropped-up during the interrogation of a suspect.
The victim, Harminder Bajaj, a resident of Sector 35, was returning home in his car when the suspects blocked his way with their car near his house. They introduced themselves as CBI sleuths and kidnapped him. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs10 crore. The victim was made to speak to his business partner for the ransom money. The kidnappers collected Rs40 lakh from outside the house of Bajaj's business partner at Phase 3B1, Mohali. Bajaj was released near Chappar Chiri and the kidnappers abandoned his car 1 km ahead. — TNS
