92 travelled to city from UK since Nov 25

Chandigarh, December 24

To prevent the spread of new strain of coronavirus, the UT Health Department has started contacting all passengers who have travelled from the United Kingdom (UK). An official spokesperson said 92 passengers travelled to Chandigarh from the UK between November 25 and December 23.

The Central Surveillance Unit of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) shared the details of the passengers with the IDSP unit of the UT Health Department.

The Administration had asked the Centre to provide a list of passengers who have recently arrived from the UK so that their testing or quarantine could be arranged.

The helpdesk of the UT Health Department was providing necessary advice to the passengers after initial verification of date of arrival in India.

"Their addresses and details are also being verified. They are being monitored for symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 and contact history since their arrival," stated the spokesperson.

The passengers have been advised to home isolate, self-monitor their health, wear masks and adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour strictly.

None of the travellers have reported any symptoms. Their further testing and institutional isolation would be done as per the SOPs, added the spokesperson. The UT police sent teams to the addresses provided in the list and started physical verification of the travellers. As per the list submitted by the Centre, 52 passengers had travelled to Chandigarh from the UK between December 9 and 21. — TNS
