Patiala, December 20

The police have achieved a major success in cordon and search operations that were started last week in the district. To wipe out criminal activities from the region, 67 cordon and search operations were conducted in the past two weeks.

Patiala SSP Vikram Jit Duggal said habitual criminals were being called to the police stations concerned to keep tabs on their activities. "Search operations have led to the recovery of 1,965 litres of 'lahan', 96 bottles of Haryana-made liquor, 74 litres of illicit liquor, 6-kg poppy husk and 5,000 intoxicant pills," he added. Similarly, 25 FIRs had been registered and 20 persons had been arrested so far, he added.

"The objective of the entire exercise is to keep a vigil on the activities of suspects and to dissuade them from committing offences. During the past two weeks, 156 people have been called to police stations and counseled," said the SSP. — TNS
