Patiala, September 7
The rising Covid deaths in Patiala have become a cause for concern for the Health Department.
Today, Patiala reported seven Covid deaths, taking the death toll to 201. The department said four deaths were reported from the city and one each from Rajpura, Samana and Sanour.
August is said to have been the worst month as far as Covid deaths are concerned.
The Patiala Civil Surgeon, Dr Harish Malhotra, said it was a cause for concern because the number of deaths was rising. He said, "There is a delay in diagnosis because people report only after reaching a critical stage. It then becomes difficult to revive patients."
Most of the patients who died of Covid had underlying conditions, which deteriorated following the Covid infection, said the Civil Surgeon.
Malhotra urged residents to avoid self-medication, which could prove fatal as it would delay the required healthcare intervention.
He said, "People should, for their own good, come forward for testing and treatment of the coronavirus."
Meanwhile, the district reported 160 cases today, taking the tally to 7,292. Of the 160, a majority of the cases — 106 — were reported from Patiala city.
