However, according to figures released by the Union Health Ministry, 194 people have died since Monday evening, including 98 in Bengal. The death toll has risen to 1,583. Meanwhile, 3,875 new cases have been reported and the number of infected has reached 46,711. According to officials, the discrepancy in the figures is due to delays in getting the data from the states to the central agency. Many agencies collect data directly from the states. However, the Centre's figures also include cases from the day before.
According to reports from states and union territories, the number of infected people in the country has risen to 47,721. As many as 2,716 new cases came to light on Tuesday. The death toll has risen to 1,597. A total of 111 people were killed on Tuesday, including 49 in Gujarat, the highest one-day death in the state so far. There were 34 deaths in Maharashtra, 10 in Madhya Pradesh, seven in Bengal, five in Rajasthan, two each in Punjab and Tamil Nadu and one each in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
