Ferozepur: The police have arrested four drug peddlers in different cases. Nirmal Singh of Basti Shamdin in Zira was nabbed with 510 intoxicating tablets. In another case, 30 gram of heroin was seized from Akashdeep Singh. During frisking of Rajinderpal Singh, a resident of Markhani village, cops seized 22-gm heroin from his possession. Cops seized 11 gram of heroin from Sukhwinder Singh, alias Chhinder, a resident of Ghall Khurd village. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act. OC
Awla dropped as K'taka secy
New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday dropped former MLA Raminder Singh Awla and sitting Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lok Sabha MP Kuldeep Rai Sharma as AICC secretaries in charge of Karnataka. The duo was appointed in October 2021. Revamping the state unit, Sonia appointed five secretaries under Karnataka AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala. She also constituted a 28-member political affairs committee of Karnataka Congress. TNS
BSF jawan found dead
Fazilka: The body of a BSF jawan was found lying near local bus stand on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Chand Singh, a resident of Delhi. He was posted in the district. Sources said the victim reportedly suffered a heart attack. A police official said the BSF officials and family members of the victim have been informed about the tragic incident. OC
CM's mother pays obeisance
Amritsar: Two days after marriage of CM Bhagwant Mann with Dr Gurpreet Kaur, his mother Harpal Kaur paid obeisance at the Golden Temple on Saturday. Calling it a personal visit, she did not interact with mediapersons. She visited the shrine amid tight security and offered 'karah parsad'. TNS
Jathedar chides preachers
Amritsar: Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Harpreet Singh on Saturday chided preachers for creating doubts among devotees on Sikh institutions and "rehat maryada" (code of conduct). "Over the past few years, preachers have been criticising 'Sakhis' (biographies of Sikh Gurus). This weakens the community," he told the gathering during the Miri Piri Diwas at Akal Takht here.
