Attack on scribe: 3 remanded in police custody

Zirakpur, November 23

Three persons, including a Zirakpur eatery owner, Sonu Sethi, were sent to one-day police remand in a case related to hurting religious sentiments of a community and voluntarily causing hurt to a Zirakpur resident.

Complainant Sukhwinder Saini, a journalist, in his complaint, stated that the suspect and his accomplices attacked him, tried to snatch his mobile phone and took off his turban near Zirakpur on Sunday night.

A case was registered against six suspects on Sunday.

Zirakpur SHO Onkar Singh Brar said two suspects, Deepak Ahuja and Joginder Dhiman, were held on Sunday night while one suspect was arrested on Monday evening. They were today produced in a court, which sent them to police remand.

Sethi, on Monday, said the journalist was defaming him by publishing false news in the past. "When he came out of his dhaba, Saini threatened him and now he is deliberately giving a religious tone to the matter," he said. — TNS
