Chandigarh, April 14
In a daylight theft, a thief decamped with around Rs10 lakh and jewellery worth several lakhs from a doctor's house in Sector 51. The 32-year-old doctor had kept the cash and jewellery at home for his wedding, scheduled for April 26.
According to the police, Dr Gaurav Varshney, who runs a clinic in Sector 46, reported that he had gone to his clinic in the morning on April 12 and on returning home around 10 pm, he found the locks of the main door broken and the house ransacked.
The complainant reported that Rs10 lakh and jewellery, including 60 gm of gold, two diamond rings, a gold ring, a gold chain, four gold bangles and a mangal sutra, were stolen from the house. The police have registered a case at the Sector 49 police station. tns
