Mohali witnesses 1.4% dip in positivity rate

After the introduction of night curfew, Mohali district has witnessed a 1.4 per cent decline in positivity rate from 21.42 per cent last week to 20.02 per cent this week.

Mohali district has witnessed about eight-fold increase in Covid cases in March as compared to February. While 6,125 cases were reported in March, 844 were found infected in February. A total of 8,262 cases surfaced during the first quarter of this year.

Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said the district was gradually ramping up testing capacity through concerted efforts. As many as 1,700 tests per million were being conducted in Mohali district, which was higher than the Punjab's overall average of 1,085 per million and the national average of 747 tests per million.

Dayalan said the district was at present tracing at least 19 contacts (highest in the state) per positive case. Level 2 and level 3 bed capacities had been increased in government as well as private hospitals for critical patients. At present, there were 379 beds. Of this, 272 beds were already occupied.

Dayalan said: "Vaccination per hundred population in the district is 3.42, which is higher than Punjab's average of 3.1. People should follow Covid appropriate behaviour and government guidelines so that together we can fight this pandemic in the best possible way".

There has been a good response from the public after the introduction of two static and two mobile teams in Mohali. SDM Jagdeep Sehgal said these teams were deployed for vaccination of government employees, industrial labourers at Lamp;T and general public. Additional mobile teams would be deployed soon.
