Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma wants the water wastage challan drive in the city to be carried out throughout the year.
At present, the drive starts in mid-April and continues for three months. “The water wastage should be checked throughout the year, not just in summer," said Ravi Kant.
Watering of lawns and washing of courtyards and vehicles is prohibited from April 15 to June 30 every year. During this period, there is more demand for water.
The Mayor said he would hold a meeting in this regard on Monday. From April 15, the civic body will start imposing a fine of Rs5,000 for water wastage. A repeat violation will invite disconnection of water supply.
The penalty was increased from Rs2,000 to Rs5,000 through a UT Administration notification on the water tariff hike in September last year.
