Dera Bassi, April 2
A 61-year-old retired government college professor, Rakesh Garg, was found dead near Ganda Kheri canal on the Rajpura-Patiala road here today. Garg had retired last year.
The family suspects Prof Garg was killed.
They claimed that he had called his daughter in the morning and told her to bring Rs 2 lakh to the canal.
According to the family, Prof Garg had left his home around 9 am this morning in a t-shirt and pajama to a nearby shop.
He then called his daughter and son-in-law and told them that he had been abducted.
Later, when the family called him, the phone call was answered by the police who informed them that he had jumped into the canal.
The family alleged that when Prof Garg was fished out by the police, he was breathing, and died before being taken to the hospital.
