Arhtiyas integral to purchase process: Ashu

Tribune News Service

Rajpura, April 10

After the deadlock over direct transfer of money into the accounts or farmers by the Centre ended, procurement of wheat was officially kicked off in the state from the Rajpura grain market here today.

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Bharat Bhushan Ashu said farmers and arhtiyas would not face inconvenience during the entire process.

For the past couple of days, arhtiyas had refused to be part of the procurement process, following which a glut-like situation had prevailed in various grain markets.

The minister said the state government was committed to procuring every grain. "For the purpose, 4,000 procurement centres have been set up across the state with an expected arrival of 135 lakh MT wheat," he said.

"Arhtiyas were, are and will be an integral part of the procurement process in the state and the revised portal developed by the Food and Supplies Department has been approved by CM Capt Amarinder Singh," he said.

Ashu, who visited the market after the meeting between the arhtiyas and government had succeeded, said uncertainty among farmers and arhtiyas had ended with the commencement of wheat purchase. "I thank arhtiyas for withdrawing their strike in the interest of the farmers," he said. There would be no cut in loading/unloading charges, he added.
