Mohali, March 26
Vehicular movement was severely hampered in the district and all major markets wore a deserted look today in response to the Bharat bandh call given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in protest against the three farm laws. The bandh was observed from 6 am to 6 pm.
The Zirakpur-Ambala road was blocked near the McDonald's point in Zirakpur. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on the Zirakpur-Panchkula road near the K-Area light point in the morning. The Zirakpur-Patiala road was blocked by the protesting farmers at the Airport light point since morning. The approach to airport was blocked at multiple points, including Singh Shaheedan Gurdwara in Traffic crippled, markets closed in Mohali district
Sohana, Sector 79, 82, Radha Soami Chowk, near IISER and other intersections.
Harvinder Singh, numberdar, Sohana, Ward No. 4 councillor Baljeet Kaur and farmer leaders addressed the protesters. However, barricades were removed for ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
In Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, PGI-bound patients and their attendants had a harrowing time convincing the protesters for passage to their private vehicles. At many places, protesters were scrutinising the medical reports and OPD cards to allow passage. Protesters forcibly downed the shutters of a liquor vend in Mullanpur. Protests were also organised on the Landran-Chappar Chiri-Kharar road, Bhagomajra and Jagatpura village.
Deserted markets
Markets wore a deserted look as shops were closed in Phase 7, 3B2 and Phase 11 in Mohali. In Baltana, shopkeepers waited outside their shops in the hope of opening of markets till 10 am.
Groom's kin made to raise slogans
In Zirakpur, a bridegroom's car was given passage after the protesters urged the groom's family members to raise slogans in support of the farmers.
