Mohali, March 27
Taking strict action against illegal encroachments, the Mohali Municipal Corporation today removed vendors from corridors in front of the showrooms in the Phase 3B2 market. Vendors' goods were also seized.
Superintendent Jaswinder Singh, under whom the anti-encroachment drive was carried out, said they had been receiving several complaints that vendors were obstructing the movement of visitors at corridors in front of the showrooms. He said this had also been causing problems to shopkeepers as people were hesitant to enter their shops.
Jaswinder Singh said earlier too, they had carried out the drive against the illegal vendors, but they had returned, forcing the MC to carry out the drive today. He said they would continue to take an action against illegal vendors in other markets too.
The meeting of the Traders' Market Welfare Association of the Phase 3B2 was chaired by Dilawar Singh. During the meeting, traders demanded that space for vehicles should be marked to streamline the parking in the market.
Akwinder Singh Gosal, senior vice-president of the Association, said traders also expressed satisfaction over the space allotted to them in front of Katani Sweets shop and urged the MC to complete the remaining work as soon as possible. He said recently, a delegation of the association had met the MC Commissioner and urged him to repair the damaged portion of the parking in the market. He said they had also urged him to develop the green belt in front of the market and hoped that the works would be started soon.
