While launching a scheme to provide mobile vending e-carts at subsidised price to promote self-marketing of fruits and vegetables among farmers under the 'Kamyab Kisan, Khushal Punjab' programme, Punjab State Agricultural Workers' Commission chairman Ajay Vir Jakhar said it was approved by the state during the recent Budget session and the Horticulture Department had done a commendable job in the interest of the farmers by implementing it in a few days.
He said self-marketing was the need of the hour and farmers could earn profit by marketing their produce.
Jakhar said by purchasing subsidised e-carts, which ran on batteries, small farmers could deliver fresh vegetables and fruits directly from their fields to customers. He said the Chief Minister-led-government believed the state would prosper only when farmers became financially strong. He advised small fruit and vegetable growers to approach the Horticulture Department to get such mobile e-carts.
Tejinder Singh, Deputy Director, Horticulture, said, "The total cost of a mobile vending e-cart is Rs 1.80 lakh. The Tata Trust provides subsidy of Rs 85,000, and Rs 15,000 is contributed by the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, a centrally sponsored scheme for holistic growth of the horticulture sector covering fruits and vegetables. The farmers will have to pay Rs 80,000 each."
