In yet another auction of heritage items from the city, six chairs and a sofa were sold for Rs 18.46 lakh in Italy.
In a letter to UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, Ajay Jagga, member of the Heritage Protection Cell, Chandigarh, stated that a set of six chairs was auctioned for Rs9.44 lakh and a sofa for Rs9.87 lakh by auction house Cambi Casa d'Aste in Milan on March 24.
Jagga requested that the matter should be examined as to how these items reached Italy. He said the United States authorities on August 15, 2020, handed over 10 heritage artifacts to India, which were smuggled to the USA. — TNS
