Zirakpur, January 5
The police have arrested four members of a gang involved in a fraud of repackaging of cheap liquor bought from Chandigarh into expensive foreign brands.
The luxury bus, which was used to smuggle the liquor, was seized and empty bottles, labels and seals brought from Delhi were also found in it. The excise and police departments also recovered a huge quantity of liquor from a warehouse at Yamuna Enclave in Zirakpur.
The suspects have been identified as Jatinderpal Singh, a resident of Motia Enclave, Zirakpur, Jatinder Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra, Karan Goswami, a resident of Bhabat, and Fateh, a resident of Jind. A case under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC and the Excise Act has been registered at the Zirakpur police station.
Zirakpur SHO Onkar Singh Brar said: “We are investigating as to where the liquor was being smuggled and the search is on for others involved.” — TNS
