Jhajjar, January 2
The district police seized 244-kg ganja (cannabis) valued at Rs 25 lakh from a vehicle in Beri town here on Friday night and arrested two persons in this connection.
The consignment was being taken to Rajasthan from a place located on the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border. The arrested persons have been identified as Ajit of Balkara village in Charkhi Dadri and Basant of Uttar Pradesh.
Jhajjar Superintendent of Police Rajesh Duggal said the ganja was packed in six bags so that no one could suspect them.
"On a tip-off about smuggling of narcotics, a team of Beri police jointly led by Inspector Manoj Kumar and ASI Amit Kumar put up a naka on the Jhajjar road in Beri town and started checking vehicles. The vehicle was intercepted and on checking, the police seized the ganja," said Duggal, adding that the duo was rounded up and a case under the NDPS Act was registered against them.
ASP Vikrant Bhushan claimed it was the biggest consignment of narcotics seized by the Jhajjar police over the past some time.
"The accused will be produced in the court today to take them on police remand. Some vital information about the racket and those involved is likely to come out," said Bhushan.
