Muktsar, December 12
The state had sent a fresh lot of smartphones to the District Education Officers last week, for distribution among the students enrolled in Class XII in the government schools. However, the distribution process has not started. The phones have been kept in a store room and two police officials have been deployed for security purpose.
A government schoolteacher said house tests of classes IX to XII had started, but the phones had not been distributed among the students. "Normal classes could not be held during the present academic session due to the pandemic, so the students need these phones. The state should distribute them at the earliest," the teacher said.
Did not get schedule
We have distributed 1,853 smartphones so far and 2,089 more have come last week. As soon as we get the schedule from the head office, the phones will be distributed. —Kapil Sharma, Deputy DEO
Malkit Singh, DEO, who holds the charge of Muktsar and Sangrur, said, "In Sangrur, we have got 4,000 smartphones and the distribution work will begin after we get the list of schools from the high-ups."
A student said, "It is surprising that the phones have come to the District Education Office, but the officers are unable to distribute them. We are facing problems in accessing the content online."
