Stopped from ‘selling’ drugs, youth thrash sarpanch in Bathinda

The sarpanch of Gurusar village, Gurjit Singh, was thrashed by youth of his village after he stopped them from "selling" drugs.

The accused youth and some other persons attacked the sarpanch and one of his companions. The sarpanch was seriously injured in the incident.

The police have registered a case under various sections, including attempt to murder, against 18 persons, based on a medical report of the victim. Gurjit Singh said the accused, identified as Gagandeep Singh, Bittu Singh, Balwant Singh, Premjit Singh, Jagjit Singh, Khushi Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Preeti Singh, Hardeep Kaur and Rani Kaur, residents of Gurusar village and Manpreet Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Nauabad village, along with five unknown persons, surrounded him and his partner Sarbjit Singh, and attacked them with a plan to kill them.
