Search ops to check anti-social elements

Tribune News Service

Patiala, December 15

The Patiala police have launched ‘cordon and search operations (CASO)’ in targeted pockets throughout the district. Areas have been selected based on intelligence inputs, crime mapping and historical criminal records of the area.

Divulging details, SSP Vikramjit Duggal said so far, 40 cordon and search operations had been conducted in Patiala leading to registration of 10 FIRs (eight under the Excise Act and two under the NDPS Act) and arrest of 10 persons. Besides, 340 litres of lahan, 110 bottles of Illicit liquor and 6 kg of poppy husk have been recovered in these operations.

“Besides CASO activities, every police station has started counselling people who had previously indulged in any sort of crime,” he said.

“The objective of the exercise is to maintain vigil about activities of suspects and also to guide them so that they do not indulge in any unlawful activities,” Duggal said.

Meanwhile, the Patiala police claimed that they had received a good response from citizens as the number of entries in Veri-Patiala, a verification app, has crossed the 15,000 mark.

“With such cooperation of city residents, it has now become easy for the Patiala police to keep a tab on strangers and suspects to maintain peace and law and order in the city,” the SSP said.
