Raninder skips ED summons in FEMA violations case

Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, December 28

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder Singh skipped summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged FEMA violations.

Raninder’s legal team cited “a recent death in the family” as the reason for not being able to appear in the case. He sought adjournment in the hearing. The ED officials are yet to give him the next date in the case.

Raninder had last appeared in the case on November 19 where the ED officials said they needed to question him further on the matter. He had been made to depose for six hours in which he had to give all replies in writing. He is being interrogated in the case since 2016 pertaining to the alleged movement of funds to Switzerland and creation of a trust and a few subsidiaries in the British Virgin Islands.

The Congress leaders have been questioning the timing of summons to the Chief Minister’s son by the ED. They have been alleging that he was being called in the four-year-old matter just to suppress the CM from becoming the voice of the protesting farmers at the Delhi borders.
