Chandigarh, December 13
Property buyers in rural areas of Haryana will have to shell out more with the state imposing a 2 per cent surcharge on the transfer of property through sale or gift.
2% cess imposed
- Property registration, either through sale or gift, will attract 2 per cent cess
- The move aims at raising resources for PRIs in view of financial crunch due to the Covid-19 pandemic
- The revenue will be shared equally by the gram panchayat and zila parishad concerned
Though the notification has been issued by Sudhir Rajpal, Principal Secretary, Panchayat and Development Department, the cess will be collected by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department along with stamp duty. Both these departments are headed by JJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.
Sources say the move, which comes a few weeks ahead of elections to the panchayati raj institutions, may harm prospects of the BJP-JJP alliance. The government is already on the back foot in view of the farmers' agitation against the farm laws.
