Panchkula, December 18

The police have registered a case against District Bar Association (DBA) president Satish Kadian and 70-80 other identified lawyers for allegedly raising slogans against a District and Sessions Judge of a Panchkula court and obstructing the way of his car.

December 15 Protest

  • Members of the Panchkula Bar Association were reportedly protesting over unavailability of parking space near the Judicial Complex on December 15.

The FIR was registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint of an ASI, Ramesh Kumar, deployed at the Sector 7 police post.

The FIR quoted Kumar as stating that while he was in the District Courts, he was informed that DBA president and 70-80 other lawyers had gathered at the District Courts roundabout in Sector 1 and blocked all ways using pipes, barbed wires and chairs, which was causing inconvenience to commuters.

"Kumar informed higher officials, who subsequently reached the spot. They tried to convince the protesting lawyers, but in vain. Around 4.15 pm, when the car of the Sessions Judge was leaving the court premises from the main gate, the lawyers obstructed his way and started raising slogans against him.

The lawyers reportedly hurled abuses at the Judge. Efforts by senior officials to persuade the lawyers yielded no result and the Judge came out of his car and went inside the court campus," the FIR said.
