Oppose IGP’s transfer, victim’s son urges state govt

Faridkot, December 28

A week after Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh submitted his 13-page reply in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in response to a petition by an accused in police firing cases of Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan, seeking his ouster from the investigation, Sukhraj Singh, son of Krishan Bhagwan Singh who was killed in the police firing at Behbal Kalan, has asked the state government to oppose the shifting of the IGP as it will “undermine the entire investigation”. After five years of a slow-paced investigation in these cases — once they were about to reach to a logical conclusion with the identification of the accused and filing of chargesheets against them — the politically well-connected accused are now using their connections to ouster the IGP from the investigation, Sukhraj Singh alleged. Seeking his ouster from the case, Gurdeep Singh, one of the prime accused in the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan police firing cases, had filed a petition in the High Court, levelling serious allegations against the IGP, accusing him of carrying out the probe in a partisan manner. — TNS
