The House Tax Assessment Committee of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided not to increase the rateable value or tax rate of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional land and buildings under the self-assessment scheme.
The decision has been taken in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and also because the tax rate was increased last year.
'No-dues' certificates
The House Tax Assessment Committee of the MC discussed various issues related to property tax and decided that the MC would issue 90,000 no-dues certificates/clearance certificates to city residents as well as commercial taxpayers till January 31, 2021.
A meeting of the committee was held today under the chairmanship of Charanjiv Singh and attended by member councillors, Additional Commissioner and other officers of the MC. They discussed various issues related to property tax and decided that the MC would issue 90,000 no-due certificates/clearance certificates to city residents as well as commercial tax payers till January 31, 2021.
On waiving the interest for the period from November 22, 2004, to March 31, 2006, in respect to the temporary shed area in the Industrial Area Phase I and II, for those who have deposited tax under the self-assessment scheme by mentioning the property area less than the survey conducted by the MC, the committee passed the agenda to waive the interest and penalty only with the condition to deposit the principal amount. This will be recommended for consideration in the General House meeting.
The committee members decided that the charitable institutes registered under the Charitable Endowment Act and are not undertaking any commercial activity will be considered for an exemption.
