Chandigarh, December 28

The positivity rate of the city remained over 5 per cent for the second consecutive week. This week, the number of Covid tests dipped to 7,952 from over 10,000 recorded in the first week of December. Experts attribute it to the city residents' reluctance to get themselves tested voluntarily.

The total number of tests conducted is nearly the same as the previous month. With three days left before December ends, 35,115 tests have been conducted so far. Last month, 35,311 tests were conducted.

According to UT officials, not many people are coming forward for voluntary testing despite their best efforts, including mobile teams at various places.

"Earlier, when mobile teams were stationed at a bus stand, over 200 people used to get themselves tested voluntarily on a daily basis. The number has now reduced to 50-60. Even in OPDs, we have been receiving requests not to force Covid tests on patients," said Dr VK Nagpal, Join Director, Health Department. As the daily average of persons tested positive is between 30 and 60 now, the testing has further dipped due to limited contact tracing. "Earlier, a majority of the tests conducted by the UT were the contacts of positive patients. As the cases have reduced, fewer contacts come forward for testing," said Dr Amandeep Kaur Kang, Director, Health Services, UT.
