Chandigarh, December 15
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Prem Garg has questioned the rationale behind handing over Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, to a private player.
“The private player will sell MBBS, MD and other paramedical seats in crores and will also provide medical facilities to the public for hefty charges,” he said.
“The government is duty bound to provide medical facilities to the general public at affordable rates. If the government doesn’t have funds to run the hospital and the proposed medical college, it will be better to start the medical college with fully paid seats, instead of free seats, as will eventually be done under the public-private partnership mode also,” he said.
“The medical college with fully paid medical seats will take care of the hospital expenses also. Under such an arrangement, patients will continue to get medical treatment at affordable rates and public confidence would also remain intact, it being a government hospital. Patients will not feel being fleeced, like in private hospitals,” he said.
