As the UT has witnessed a gradual fall in Covid-19 cases, the Administration has decided not to impose any additional restrictions, including night curfew, on New Year's Eve.
UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore held a review meeting in this regard with Arun Gupta, Principal Secretary (Health), Sanjay Baniwal, Director General of Police (DGP), and Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner (DC), as a lot of uncertainty was prevailing regarding the additional restrictions, including night curfew, to be imposed on New Year's Eve.
Badnore's appeal to residents
As a precautionary measure, UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore has appealed to residents not to crowd public places, and positively return to the comforts of their homes by 1 am on New Year's Eve.
However, the Administrator directed the DGP to ensure that the existing Covid-19 appropriate behaviour and the restrictions on the number of persons and opening and closing of hotels and restaurants should be strictly enforced.

Follow Covid protocol, says PGI Director

Meanwhile, so far, the city has not reported any case of the new strain of the coronavirus found in the UK.
Ankit Gupta, president, Chandigarh Hospitality Association (CHA), and joint secretary, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India, said: "We welcome the decision of the Chandigarh Administration of not imposing night curfew on New Year's Eve. We assure all our patrons that the Covid guidelines and protocol will be stringently followed." Meanwhile, the DC, along with Kuldip Singh Chahal, SSP, held a meeting with representatives of hotels, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs in order to emphasise strict compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines such as wearing masks and maintaining social distance in hotels and restaurants on New Year's Eve.
The DC asked the hotel and restaurant owners to scrupulously adhere to the guidelines issued by the Union Government and operate with half their capacity and keep the gathering limited to 200, whichever is less, respectively. The DC further stated that any violation of these guidelines would attract severe action from the UT Administration.
The representatives of the hotels, restaurants, pubs and clubs assured him about adherence to the Covid protocol and MHA guidelines in the establishments.
Meanwhile, owners have been asked to provide their seating capacity list to the Administration by tomorrow.

Mohali geared up too: SSP Satinder Singh on Tuesday said the Mohali police were geared up for New Year's Eve with enhanced police presence in market areas in the city. He said cops would patrol the city to curb nuisance in markets and residential areas. "Pickets will be set up in sensitive locations to check any untoward incident. All staff will be on duty and the government's guidelines will be followed strictly," he said.
