Hooda backs farmers’ stir

Chandigarh, September 9

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday announced his support to the farmers’ agitation against three agricultural ordinances “which seek to remove protection given to the farmers”.

He said the movement was not only about farmers, but would also impact labourers, commission agents and small traders.

“Everyone believes that without the protection of minimum support price, these ordinances are against the interests of farmers. If the government wants to implement those, then it should ensure that no purchases are made below MSP. “The government could bring in a fourth ordinance separately to provide a clear provision that if any agency buys the crop of the farmer below the MSP, then legal action will be taken against it,” Hooda stated on Wednesday. — TNS
