Gangajal a hot seller at post office

Even though Kanwar Yatra has been banned because of the Covid-19 pandemic, city's post office is keeping the religious fervour of Lord Shiva's devotees in high spirits by bringing the sacred water from the Ganga on the doorstep.

Bottles (250 ml) of the holy water are available at the General Post Office, Sector 17B, for Rs30 at Counter No 22. Senior Postmaster ML Sharma said: "This year, we are selling at least 100 bottles of the sacred water almost every day. Even today, we sold 122 bottles."

He shares that every year, Uttarakhand postal services sends the holy water to all post offices across the country. "The holy water has been available here for the past several years, but it's only this year that its sale picked up," he added.

Sanitiser, masks, gloves available too

The General Post Office is also providing visitors with sanitisers, masks and gloves. A 100-ml bottle of sanitiser at the post office is available for Rs40, while the masks are for Rs10.
